Your Guide to Pet-Friendly ApartmentsBorder collie puppy on couch

Finding a community that will welcome you and your pet while meeting all of your qualifications can be tricky. We're here to help you learn how to find and select the perfect apartment for you and your dog or cat.

Searching for Pet-Friendly Rentals

When searching on listing sites such as Apartments.com, Apartment Guide, Zillow, or Apartment List, be sure to filter your results to only communities that allow pets. On most websites, this feature is located in the amenities filters. Some sites even allow you to specifically designate whether you're searching for just dog-friendly or cat-friendly apartments. This is important because some communities will allow cats, but not dogs. Be sure to note this when searching.

If using a search engine like Google or Bing, it's easy to type in a phrase like "dog-friendly apartments in Pikesville," "pet-friendly apartments near Baltimore," or "pet-friendly rentals near Bel Air, MD" to return a list of apartment websites that mention that they are pet friendly. You can even get specific to a certain neighborhood within your desired city to get more geo-targeted search results.

As your searching, begin creating a shortlist of communities that you'd like to visit. Before hitting the road to take a tour, carefully review the community's website, or call the leasing center to verify that your pet(s) are allowed. Many apartments have breed or size restrictions so it's important to review all information before selecting an apartment.

Review Pet-Friendly Amenities

Truly pet-friendly communities will feature amenities such as fenced-in dog parks, walking trails, lots of green space, and pet cleanup stations. Luxury communities may even feature dog wash stations.

If these amenities aren't available right on-site, you may find them just outside the community. Do a quick Google search for area parks, dog parks, groomers, pet stores, and hiking trails. Sidewalks in and around the community are important if you plan on walking distances with your pup.

Make Sure You Budget Properly

Before selecting your next home, ask about pet deposits, pet fees, and additional pet rent. Pet fees can range from $100-500, with pet rents often $50-100 per pet. Our Peak Management communities charge just $35 per pet and a $300 pet fee for your first pet and $150 for your second pet.

Our Peak family of communities offer a wide range of pet-friendly homes throughout the Baltimore area. Be sure to check them out and search for your new home at peakmgt.net
